Active and healthy camping holidays

Holidays are for switching off, enjoying good food, and slowing down. But that doesn’t mean your healthy habits need to take a back seat. We have a few easy ways to keep mind and body health on your next holiday.

Move your body, your way

Walk it out

Skip the treadmill, head out for a morning walk on the beach, wander a forest track, or take the kids exploring. Waterfall walks are a wonderful way to make it not feel like exercise, with a reward at the end!

Hiking & Biking

If you’re up for something a bit more adventurous, hiking or cycling can be super rewarding: fresh air, views, muscles working, the lot.

Yoga & stretching

A few simple yoga flows in the morning or evening can do wonders, stretch the tight bits, calm the mind.

Stay playful on the water

Something like stand-up paddleboarding or even gentle swimming is both fun and great exercise.

Keep it simple

You don’t need fancy gear. A few stretches, some squats, or yoga on the grass is enough to loosen you up. Think “movement snacks”, little bursts through the day instead of a long workout.

For older travellers: Staying strong & fit

If you're travelling and want low-impact but effective workouts, look after joints, adapt to changing routines, there are great tips just for this.

Eat fresh, eat local

Visit the markets

Local markets are a goldmine for fresh fruit, veggies, eggs and bread. Grab what’s in season and you’ll notice the difference tastier, healthier, no preservatives.

Picnic food beats instant snacks

Pack some fruit, nuts, or boiled eggs instead of chips and lollies. You’ll feel better on a long day out and still have energy for adventures.

Cook when you can

If your cabin or campsite has a kitchen, keep it simple: throw some veg on the barbecue, toss a salad, or grill up fish. We have so great camping recipes here which can be prepared just as easily in a cabin kitchen, a camp kitchen or an open fire.

Local cafés are great too, just look for places serving fresh, real food. Check out some cafes and restaurants near to our parks.

Look after your mind too

Holidays are as much about recharging your head as your body.

Breathe and reset

Sometimes, its just about allowing yourself the chance to breathe. Centre yourself in the sounds, sights and smells of where you are. Take five minutes to sit, breathe slowly, and let the holiday pace sink in. Apps like Headspace or Insight Timer can guide you if you like.

Write it down

Jot a few notes about what you’re grateful for, funny moments from the day, or things you’ve noticed. It’s a nice way to capture memories too.

Reading

Grab a book you can really get lost in - pickup something from a community library nearby or checkout the camp kitchen for a good read.

Rest well

Sleep is one of the best “treats” you can give yourself. Keep a rough bedtime routine, and let your body catch up on the rest it needs.

Wellness Retreats

If you need something more structured, a place devoted to rest, good food, gentle movement, meditation, a wellness retreat might be exactly what you need. Check out our top wellness retreat picks here.

Hot Springs: Healing in Nature

Floating in warm natural springs, soaking muscles, cooling off — this is self-care in its finest form.

Switch off (a little)

Try a screen-free morning or evening. Less scrolling means more time for sunsets, stargazing, or just chatting with the people you’re with.
