Are dogs allowed on Hawks Nest Beach

Yes, dogs are allowed on parts of Bennetts Beach in Hawks Nest, but there are designated areas and rules to follow. The northern end of Bennetts Beach, past the surf club and away from the patrolled swimming area, is an off-leash zone where dogs can run freely.

Always check local signs, as rules can vary depending on the season, and follow the locals' lead.

Can you drive on Hawks Nest Beach?

Yes, you can drive on Bennetts Beach (Hawks Nest Beach), but a Beach Vehicle Access Permit is required. This beach is part of the Myall Lakes National Park, and vehicles are allowed in certain areas, primarily for 4WD vehicles. Driving is permitted on the northern end of Bennetts Beach, away from the patrolled swimming areas and the Surf Life Saving Club.

Before driving on the beach, it’s important to follow the rules:

  • Ensure you have a valid permit, which can be obtained from the Mid Coast Council.
  • Stick to the designated areas for vehicles.
  • Be mindful of tides, as conditions can change quickly.
Does Hawks Nest flood?

Hawks Nest can experience flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall or storm surges. As the area is located near the Myall River, the Pacific Ocean, and several coastal lagoons, it makes Hawks Nest susceptible to flooding under certain conditions, especially when rainfall combines with high tides.

Low-lying areas near the river and beaches are most at risk of flooding. The local council typically issues flood warnings and safety advice when necessary, so it’s a good idea to monitor weather reports and local flood alerts if you’re visiting during the wet season or periods of severe weather.
