Inaugural show & shine rolls into Copeton to boost local tourism

ORGANISERS of this weekend’s inaugural Show & Shine at Copeton Dam hope to make the car fanatic meet an annual event on the region's tourism calendar as they prepare to welcome scores of exhibitors to the picturesque New England region tourist destination.

Organised by the Inverell Sporties Ford GT and Enthusiasts Club and hosted by Reflections Copeton Waters, the two-day extravaganza on April 18 and 19 will feature Ford GTs, classic cars of all makes, plus a few new models. The cars will be on show early on Saturday morning ahead of a bonfire, sausage sizzle and DJ at night, with cars on display on Sunday morning before the event wraps up around midday.

Reflections Copeton Waters park manager Steve Daley said his team had been working hard with the Inverell Sporties to organise the Show & Shine event, with strong bookings at the holiday park this weekend, and day passes (which can also be booked online) are also popular.

“Our holiday park is a logical place to have this event because it’s a key meeting point for the region, with accommodation and lots of outdoor activities to enjoy at the dam, and we’re so excited to be hosting it,” Mr Daley said.

Inverell Sporties member Brett Parker said that car enthusiast clubs from inland and throughout the North West region were travelling to the event notwithstanding the rise in fuel prices.

“A few weeks back, we were wondering if we should reconsider the timing, but we have had such a positive response, with overwhelming interest from the network of car clubs around New South Wales," Mr Parker said. “We’re looking forward to having all the cars on display during the weekend, having ensured that this event is not just for Ford GT fans but for classic and new, with something for everyone.”

Mr Parker said the organisers were keen to see this become an annual tourist event, making it bigger and better each year with involvement from local businesses and charities.
