Things tent campers never say

Tent camping is a way of life. It’s about embracing the outdoors, finding peace in simplicity, and enjoying the freedom of being close to nature. And whether you’re a seasoned camper or just starting out, there are a few things you’d never hear a tent camper say, because they just don’t fit with the spirit of the experience.

"We’ve packed everything and still have so much room in the car"

Tent campers know how to pack the car for a camping weekend away! With a mindset of more is more and to cover all bases, the car journey may be a squish, but worth it for a wok dinner at the campsite and that extra pillow for the comfiest night's sleep.

"Who needs a campfire?"

A campfire is the heart of any camping trip, no matter what kind of tent you’re sleeping in. From the smallest one-person tent to the most spacious rooftop tent perched above your vehicle, gathering around the fire is a timeless tradition. It’s where meals are cooked, stories are told, and memories are made.

"I didn't trip over the tent guy rope once on this trip"

Yep, no matter whether you hammered in that rope's tent peg yourself and know where it is within an inch, its nigh on impossible not to trip over at least once - we get ya!

"Our tent is so clean and sand-free"

Nope, while life is better outdoors, the outdoors almost always ends up indoors/ in tent with you. Did somebody say "kids start sweeping?"

"I hope there’s a lot of noise"

The sounds of nature are all the background noise a tent camper needs. The rustling of leaves, the chirping of crickets, and the distant call of an owl are the perfect soundtrack for a peaceful night under the stars, no matter which type of tent you’re using.

"I’m not bothered about the weather."

Tent campers are always in tune with the weather. Whether you’re checking the forecast before heading out with your swag, making sure your family tent is well-ventilated, or ensuring your roof top tent is secure for the night, being prepared for the elements is part of the experience. The weather adds a touch of excitement to any camping trip.

"The Kookaburras are so quiet this morning"

While the call of the kookaburra is an essential part of camping in Australia, they are sure to have the last word in every conversation at the campsite.

"I’ll skip exploring today"

Tent campers are natural explorers. Whether you’re travelling light with a swag and hitting the trail, setting out from your family tent for a day of hiking, or exploring off the beaten path with your rooftop tent in tow, there’s always a sense of adventure. Discovering new places and soaking in the beauty of nature is what makes camping so rewarding.

No matter what type of tent you choose, tent camping is about embracing the simplicity and beauty of the great outdoors. It’s about finding joy in the little things—like a stunning view, a warm campfire, or a morning spent exploring. These are the moments that make tent camping so special, and the things that tent campers would never say reflect a love for the experience that’s all about connection—with nature, with others, and with yourself.
