FRESH OR SALT

That's the question of the century!

But no matter whether your happy place is casting a line from the beach with the salty breeze, or inland where the waters are calm and tranquil - we have some great spots for you.

The Magic of Coastal Fishing

There’s something special about fishing off the coast, the mix of sea air, rolling waves, and that moment of anticipation before a bite. Cast straight into the surf, or chase the excitement of heading out by boat to chase bigger fish further offshore.

What to catch where:

  • Central Coast (Avoca, Budgewoi, Shelly, Toowoon Bay)
    • Whiting, bream, flathead, tailor, with jewfish in warmer months
  • Mid-North Coast (Beaches: Elizabeth, Nine Mile, Seven Mile; plus Forster breakwall & Wallis Lake)
    • Bream, flathead, whiting, luderick, mulloway, and the odd kingfish
  • Coffs Coast (Park Beach, Diggers, Sapphire, Muttonbird Island)
    • Tailor, bream, whiting, mulloway, plus offshore snapper, tuna, and mackerel
  • Far North Coast (Evans Head, Byron, Lennox Head)
    • Bream, whiting, tailor, luderick, mulloway; offshore reefs hold snapper, pearl perch, and kingfish
  • Far South Coast (Merimbula, Eden, Broulee, Tomakin)
    • Snapper, kingfish, tuna, bonito offshore; bream and whiting closer in

Fishing County NSW

There’s something special about fishing inland. From wide, winding rivers to peaceful dams and creeks, country fishing is as much about slowing down and soaking up the scenery as it is about the catch. Throw a line in from the bank, launch a tinny, or wander along a shaded creek; the adventure is yours to choose.

What to catch where:

  • Murray River & Surrounds (Echuca, Yarrawonga, Mildura)
    • Murray cod, golden perch (yellowbelly), silver perch, and catfish
  • New England Tablelands (Armidale, Glen Innes, Guyra)
    • Trout fishing heaven in rivers and streams
  • Central West (Dubbo, Bathurst, Forbes)
    • Golden perch and Murray cod in lakes and rivers
  • Snowy Mountains (Jindabyne, Eucumbene, Thredbo River)
    • Renowned for trophy‑sized rainbow and brown trout
  • North West Rivers (Gwydir, Namoi, Peel Rivers)
    • A mix of Murray cod, golden perch, and silver perch
