Sea Silks Gallery

This beautiful gallery showcases the vibrant and distinctive silk paintings of Kim Michelle Toft, whose work is celebrated for its rich colour, flowing movement and deep connection to the natural world. Her vivid, hand-painted silks and environmental children's books inspired by the underwater world are widely admired and make stunning gifts or striking statement pieces for the home. Visitors can also take part in a hands-on silk painting workshop led by Kim herself. With more than 30 years of experience, Kim is a passionate and accomplished tutor, offering a welcoming introduction to the art of silk painting. During the four-hour workshop, participants create their own silk artwork (30cm x 40cm) to take home. No drawing experience is required. Participants begin by tracing a chosen design from Kim's extensive collection of nature-inspired artworks. Gold gutta is then applied before painting the silk with dyes and brushes, creating luminous colour within the flowing outlines. All materials are provided, making it an easy and enjoyable creative experience. A short break is included while the gutta dries, with time to relax or enjoy a snack. A visit here is a wonderful way to experience Ballina's creative spirit and enjoy unique local art at its finest.
