Caper Byron Bay Food and Culture Festival

in a year
Next on May 14, 2026
Millions of visitors grace Byron's shores annually, and who can blame them - this is a place as well-versed in seascapes as it is in spirit. The traditional custodians of the surrounding Bundjalung Nation called it Cavanbah (or meeting place), a role it played for thousands of years, and Byron's not changed its tune ever since. A once small surf town turned alternative oasis, home to a thriving population of creative talent across a kaleidoscope of different fields. Caper is a celebration of this colourful community, the melting pot of individuals who have made this popular holiday town a hometown. A food and lifestyle-focused affair honouring the long-established laid-back ethos of this place and its appreciation for the surrounding environment, not to mention its local talent, growing culinary scene, traditional land custodians and ample natural assets. The ten-day festival is a foray through Byron Shire's food, drink, music, wellness, art, community, and entertainment, through a cluster of ticketed and free community events and exhibitions. Caper will be scattered from beach to hinterland, from morning through night, in restaurants, breweries, businesses and iconic landmarks, with Byron Town as its epicentre. This is a chance to unite in an annual event that pays tribute to the unique Rainbow Region.
