Bermagui River

The spectacular Bermagui River is a serene estuary in the heart of Bermagui, an ideal location for kayaking, SUPing, fishing and boating. The river winds along the edge of mangrove forests and lofty woodlands, home to many species of birds including herons, azure kingfishers and sea eagles. Paddling in the early morning, the only sounds you’ll hear are the swoosh of your oar in the water and the flutter of cormorant and heron wings – all manner of birds descend to forage in mangroves and sun themselves in trees. Known for its excellent fishing opportunities, anglers can find flathead, bream, whiting, tailor, trevally, mulloway and octopus. Bermagui River is approximately seven kilometres long and flows eastward into picturesque Bermagui Harbour, home to a deep-sea fleet of commercial trawlers and recreational boaters. There is a two-lane concrete boat ramp available with an adjacent rigging and de-rigging area, suitable for smaller vessels for recreational fishing or boating. Guided kayaking tours are available with Navigate Expeditions, and kayak and SUP hire can be found near the bridge at Bermagui Bait and Tackle.
