Spectacular Waterfalls you need to see in NSW

Whether it’s tumbling cascades, stunning tiered falls, or gentle mists you’re chasing there’s sure to be a waterfall in New South Wales for you. This list includes just some of the amazing waterfalls in the state, with each one worth visiting whether you’re staying nearby or just passing through.

Cascade Falls, Macquarie Pass National Park

You’ll find the Cascade Falls in Macquarie National Park, the Cascades Walk to the falls is only short and there’s a beautiful picnic area at the start of the walk too. Though they may not be the tallest falls in the state, they are definitely some of the prettiest. If you’re up for it take a dip into the beautiful pool below the falls.

Upper and Lower Minnamurra Falls, Budderoo National Park

If you’re holidaying on the NSW South Coast make sure you visit Budderoo National Park, giving yourself at least two hours to complete the walkway and paved trail so you’ve got time to admire both the Upper and Lower Minnamurra Falls. Both waterfalls have viewing platforms that are great vantage points for snapping some pictures.

Near both Wollongong and Kiama, it’s great spot to call into if you’re driving to Eden, Bermagui or Pambula.

Killen Falls, Killen Reserve

If you’ve ever wanted to walk under a waterfall and stay dry, this waterfall is for you! The 10 metre falls make for stunning viewing from the pool edge, though we recommend you walk through the cave behind the falls for the best views.

Killen Falls is a short drive from Ballina or Byron Bay and will be a highlight on every travellers NSW bucket list.

Minyon Falls, Nightcap National Park

One of the tallest waterfalls in this list, Minyon Falls tumbles 100 metres to the gorge below. You can view it from the lookout, which will give you spectacular views of the falls but also on a clear day you’ll be able to see to the coast. The natural pool below is perfect for swimming and is also a great spot for a picnic with barbeques and tables.

Nightcap National Park is less than an hour from Byron Bay.

Crystal Shower Falls and Red Cedar Falls, Dorrigo National Park

When you arrive at Dorrigo National Park, you’ll have to make the tough decisions on which waterfall to see first. You’ll be stepping back in time viewing the Gondwana Forests as you walk one of the shortest waterfall walks around to the Crystal Shower Falls, you’ll also get to walk across the suspension bridge to go behind the falls which is great fun for the kids (both young and old)!

The three hour walk to Red Cedar Falls doesn’t disappoint, the falls are the largest in the National Park. This walk isn’t just about the destination though, with dramatic views of the World Heritage Listed Rainforest at every turn.

A great walk for kids, be sure to make the drive to Dorrigo if you’re staying at one of our Coffs Coast parks.

Ebor Falls, Guy Fawkes River National Park

Ebor Falls is a two-tiered waterfall where the Guy Fawkes River plunges 100 metres. You’ll have your choice of view from the three lookout platforms along the gorges edge. The walk is suitable for kids and sure to be a hit, especially if you spot a majestic wedge-tailed eagle.

Guy Fawkes River National Park is about 2 hours’ drive inland from the Coffs Coast, it’s a great spot for a pit stop if you’re travelling from Inverell or Armidale.

Whether you’re after a great picnic spot, the perfect swimming hole or just an Instagram-worthy location, all these falls are worth doing as you trip around NSW.

Just remember to follow the National Parks rules, wear sunscreen, take a water bottle and let someone know you’re going. Oh, and don’t forget your camera!
