You may have heard (if you haven’t – where have you been?) that Reflections Hawks Nest has the recent addition of a phenomenal, huge, heated year-round swimming pool! Yep winter or summer, this swimming pool is heated bliss!
This 18-meter, bow-tie-shaped, little piece of heaven has been the talk of the town, located right in the heart of the park, next to the freshly refurbed amenity block – life doesn’t get better, or more convenient, than this!
To celebrate the pool, and how usable it is in winter, we partnered with HUNTERHunter to send Reflections staff member, Sweeby and her kids, Lily and Thomas, up to Reflections Hawks Nest, to experience the pool, luxe new villas and everything that this epic location has to offer first-hand and give us the low down…
“We left Newcastle with a jam-packed car. Full of bikes, scooters, bags and kids, and hit the highway north. I was wondering if the cabin was going to be big enough for us and all out stuff!
But the kids were super excited, and a little nervous for their first photo shoot. Relieved that it was only and hour and a half drive with excited kids in the car, as crossed Singing Bridge, we could smell the salty air, and excitement seriously ramped up! Oh did I forget to say that we couldn’t have asked for better weather – the perfect sunny winter NSW day!
Pulling into the park, the kids spotted the massive new pool instantly, and the race was on to see who could dive in first. Bribing them to help unpack the car involved promises of milkshakes, but more on that later.
We were in the villas – right by the pool! I couldn’t recommend these more as I could just relax on the verandah and watch the kids in the pool. The villa itself was super spacious, definitely room for the people and all the paraphernalia that comes with epic holidays. Dinner, when I eventually coaxed Thomas out the pool, was cooked on the Webber – couldn’t get more convenient than that! Our morning routine started with a scoot or bike to the Nest Café - right outside IGA, for brekky and a delicious coffee – once we got to the park, we didn’t barely used the car at all – its all so easy to get around and everything you need is right there!
We hit Bennetts Beach in the morning as the swell was lower than the day before and the kids had a ball messing around the waves. Lunch was back at the cabin with some snags on the BBQ and take a guess what the most popular afternoon activity was? Yep, you guessed, we couldn’t keep the kids out of that epic pool! The fact that it was heated made it even harder for me to wrangle them out – but it was a pretty good problem to have.
Keeping our calories up, we tried out Hawks Nest Golf Club’s Sando’s Café & Restaurant for dinner, good food and great for the kids. The next morning, we wandered down to Jimmy’s Beach, a calm stretch that’s perfect for paddling, water-fights and sandcastle-building.
By the final day, the pool was the undisputed favourite. Morning swims blurred into afternoon splash sessions. In fact, I don’t think we’ve ever had such an easy bedtime, there’s something about salty air, bike rides, and hours in the water that does the trick.
Hawks Nest really does make family holidays simple – roomy, comfortable accommodation, a pool that keeps the kids entertained (and exhausted), beautiful beaches, and everything you need within walking distance. If your idea of a great trip is happy, worn-out kids and a quiet cuppa on the verandah while they sleep, this spot delivers.”
Sounds like a great family holiday!
