For easy coastal exploring, head for Joggly Point from the end of Ocean Drive, winding through coastal scrub to headland views and distinctive rock formations. A few kilometres from town, the 300‑hectare Dirawong Reserve offers signed walking tracks through native coastal bushland and access to culturally significant places including Goanna Headland and Snapper Rock. What towns are near Evans Head?

You’ll be spoilt for choice for day trips in the local area surrounding Evans Head. Head north and you’ll hit major hubs like Lennox Head, Ballina and Shaws Bay. There’s Casino to the west and Yamba to the south, with nearby Woodburn a local favourite for its Historic New Italy museum and attractions.


Can you 4WD on Evans Head beach?

Richmond Valley Council has designated an area of 4.6km on Airforce Beach north of the current 4WD access point for your adventures. They’ve set specific rules and regulations around 4WD and dogs on local beaches, so make sure you brush up on what’s required before you arrive.


Are dogs allowed on Evans Head beach?

Your four-legged friend can run off-leash at Airforce Beach, the main beach in Evans Head. There’s a designated 1.3km of space north of the 4WD access point, but unfortunately pooches aren’t able to go any further south.
