Nambucca Heads Itinerary Ideas

3 Days in Nambucca Heads

If pristine beaches, breathtaking lookouts and scrumptious food excite you, then you'll love exploring the Mid-North Coast's hidden gems, Nambucca Heads.

Next to an impressive stretch of coastline that includes Coffs Harbour, is where you'll find this charming local spot full of art, fun and outdoor adventure. A 3-day Nambucca Heads itinerary will take you from the beachfront to the trailhead, past outdoor art galleries and into unique restaurants and cafes. Bring your curiosity, a good pair of walking shoes and a camera to make the most of Nambucca's laid-back vibe.

Kickstart your 3-day journey on foot down at the mouth of the Nambucca River. It's where, on the breakwall, you can view the V-Wall outdoor gallery. Covered in artwork, it's a local favourite! And while you're there, wander over to the V Wall Pavilion for lunch and sit by the waterfront to soak up the sunshine.

Post-lunch, take the scenic route around to Shelly Beach, detouring via Wellington Rocks, and head up to Captain Cook Lookout for sweeping views of the headland. If you have time in the afternoon, you could pop by the Nambucca Headland Museum to learn about the history of the Valley. Then, you'll want to be on Main Beach as the sun dips down into the Pacific for sunset, ending your night with dinner at Matilda's (Thursdays to Mondays) or the Nambucca RSL.

Day 2: Coastal walks and forest hikes

Lace up some comfortable shoes on day 2 and take advantage of the local walks and hikes. For a gentle option, hit the Nyambagga Walking Trail for a casual stroll. But if you're feeling more adventurous, Yarriabini National Park gives you winding forest paths to choose from with one-of-a-kind coastal views.

Our hot tip is to pack a picnic and bring it with you to maximise your time outdoors. Make sure you bring sunscreen and plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially if you're walking or hiking in the warmer weather.

Day 3: Feed your soul (and stomach!)

There's no better way to truly get to know a place than through its food and local culture. Start day 3 off with breakfast or brunch at Wharf Street Cafe (closed Mondays). After sipping on your cappuccino or smoothie, you're primed to either spend more time at the beach or branch out and try something new, like a round of golf at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club. If golf isn't your thing, how about seafood? There are a few delicious options, like Dave’s Seafood or nearby Nambucca Oyster Co, to get your fix at lunch.

If you've got itchy feet and want options for what to do around Nambucca Heads, you're in luck! If you have access to a car, a short 20-minute drive north will land you in the quaint town of Urunga. Whip out a surfboard and hit the breakers, or go for a scenic walk by the Bellinger River. Or, if you want to chase waterfalls, you'll be a short drive from popular Dangar Falls.
