Koyo Matsuri - Autumn Festival

in 2 months
Next on May 02, 2026
For one day in May, the Cowra Japanese Garden will transform into a celebration of autumn with Koyo Matsuri, the Autumn Leaves Festival. In Japan, Koyo Matsuri is typically held in November during the Northern Hemisphere's autumn, but Cowra Japanese Garden has organised its festivities to coincide with both Australian autumn and the date of the Japanese Children's Festival. Colourful koi kites will be hung in the trees as the foliage turns jewel-toned reds, oranges and yellows. Explore the paths that meander around the immaculately manicured, five-hectare Japanese garden or join an activity. There will be origami and bonsai workshops, tea ceremonies, a long bow archery demonstration and more. A Japanese food truck will also be on site offering traditional Japanese cuisine.
