The Brunswick Woodchop Carnival is currently regarded as the biggest wood chopping event outside the Sydney and Brisbane shows and draws international contestants from New Zealand, US and Canada. The annual Woodchop Carnival runs every January with over 80 men, women and children set to compete in the three day event. The first woodchop competition in Brunswick Heads was held in 1928, with the aim of raising funds to build the footbridge linking the town to the beachfront, and ran until 1932. The second series began in 1961 when Noel McGregor, who ran the carnival, sought sponsorship to bring it back. There is no admission cost to the carnival and everyone is welcome to come along to watch the events.
