Strangest belongings left behind at Reflections' parks

The weird, the wonderful and the wildly unexpected things guests have forgotten on holiday

Everyone leaves something behind on holiday.

  • A phone charger is plugged into the wall.
  • A lonely pair of thongs under the cabin bed.
  • A soggy rashie draped dramatically over a chair like it’s in a beachside soap opera.

At Reflections Holidays parks across NSW, our teams are no strangers to forgotten belongings. In fact, tracking down owners and reuniting guests with their missing treasures has become part of the daily routine for many of our park legends.

But while some lost items are pretty standard, others leave our teams completely speechless.

Because alongside the usual collection of sunglasses, pillows and phone chargers, we’ve also uncovered items that raise far more questions than answers.

Like… why was there a car bonnet sitting outside a cabin?

Or perhaps more importantly… how do you drive home without noticing it’s missing?

Why do people leave so much behind on holiday?

There’s actually a very good reason holidaymakers forget things...The moment people arrive at a caravan park, coastal cabin or campsite, real life tends to switch off. Days become slower. Kids are running barefoot between playgrounds and beaches. There are bikes to ride, marshmallows to toast, fishing rods to untangle and sunsets demanding your full attention.

By the time checkout morning rolls around, most guests are operating on maximum relaxation and one coffee short of remembering where they put anything, literally.

That’s how belongings end up tucked into cupboards, hidden under mattresses or abandoned in camp kitchens.

And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The most commonly left-behind items at Reflections Holidays parks

  1. Mobile phones and phone chargers
  2. Pillows
  3. Shoes, thongs and sunglasses
  4. Wetsuits, rashies and swimmers
  5. Children’s toys, including teddy bears

Some of the most common items our park managers report being left behind include

While most forgotten belongings are fairly predictable, there have been a few discoveries over the years that genuinely surprised our teams.

Some of the more unusual items left behind include:

  1. A child called Hamish

Thankfully, Hamish was quickly reunited with his family after an accidental holiday mix-up.

2. $10,000 cash hidden under a mattress

A reminder that hiding valuables in “safe places” only works if you remember where the safe place was.

3. A very expensive wedding ring

Fortunately, this sentimental piece made its way safely back to its owner.

4. A car bonnet

Still one of the more baffling items ever discovered at a Reflections park.

5. Bright pink fluffy high heels covered in diamantes

Unclaimed, unforgettable and impossible to ignore.

What happens to lost property at Reflections Holidays?

If our teams discover forgotten belongings after checkout, they’ll always do their best to contact guests and arrange their return.

Valuable items are carefully stored, sentimental belongings are prioritised, and staff regularly help reunite families with everything from jewellery to beloved teddy bears.

Of course, some mystery items remain unclaimed forever. Which means somewhere across the Reflections network, there may still be a lonely single thong, an abandoned pool noodle or a glittery high heel patiently waiting for its owner to return.
