Wondering how to pack in as much as possible on a weekend getaway to Byron Bay? We got you! Reflections Ambassadors Rhys and Ella recently spent the weekend in this iconic spot on the Far North Coast and this is their story:
If you’re planning your next trip to the vibrant Byron Bay, than look no further than this jam packed itinerary Ella and I have put together, so that you can hit the ground running.
Of course, like anything if you are after a complete weekend of relaxation away there is always the option to just find a shady spot on Wategos or at The Pass, set up for the day with an awesome book, and watch the surfers cruise by on the perfect Byron waves rolling through.
However, if you are like Ella and I and like to explore as much as you can, you are in the right place!
There's no better way to become acquainted with Byron than by walking the coastline, especially early in the morning. As our alarms blared at 5:30AM, we slowly got out of bed and embarked on the iconic Byron Bay Coastal Walk, a scenic route that winds along the rugged coastline up to the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse. It didn’t take long for our tired eyes to wake up after seeing the beautiful panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, breathing in the salty sea air, and revelling in the natural beauty that surrounded us everywhere.
Of course some people just aren’t morning goers so might need a little more than some beautiful views and salty sea air to get kick-started. Luckily, Byron Bay's vibrant coffee culture has your sorted. Start your day with a freshly brewed cup of locally roasted coffee at one of Byron Bay's many charming cafes. Whether you choose to sip on artisanal brews at Raes halfway through your coast walk, enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of ‘Top Shop’, discover the hidden gem ‘Suffolk Bakery’, or amidst the hustle and bustle at ‘Bayleaf’, each café offers a unique blend of flavours and ambiance. Another great option is ‘Beach Byron Bay’ perfectly located right next door to Reflections.
No trip to Byron Bay is complete without trying your hand at surfing, and what better place to start than at The Pass or Wategos Beach? After enjoying our morning coffee and walk, we beelined straight to the beach and immerse ourselves in the surf culture that defines Byron Bay. As surfers ourselves, we have taught many of our friends to Surf in Byron because it without a doubt has some of the best learner friendly waves for anyone to enjoy! If you are lucky enough like we were, you may even have the chance to see some of the locals pop up right next to your surfboard - beautiful sea turtles, dolphins and manta rays all paid us a visit!
The following day we decided to venture inland for a day trip to Minyon Falls, a breathtaking waterfall nestled within the lush rainforest of Nightcap National Park. Enroute, we made pit stops at the quaint towns of Bangalow and Clunes, where we browsed local markets, sampled gourmet treats, and soaked in the charm of Byron Bay's hinterland.
Make sure you don’t miss out on Butcher Baker in Bangalow for artisanal treats and continue your journey through to Clunes, where you can explore the eclectic book collection at Uncle Peter's Books. This bookshop has a really special feel to it, and we couldn’t recommend visiting enough!
Upon reaching Minyon Falls, take a short, leisurely hike through to the lookout platform and for the more adventurous a 13km return walking track meandering a range of forests and pristine creeks awaits. Whilst at the lookout platform, we were lucky enough to peer out over the handrail and spot two incredible pythons laying coiled up on the cliff-face below, so keep an eye out!
As we said our goodbyes to Byron Bay and headed back to the Gold Coast we felt it was only right to stop in at the Farm Byron Bay for a quick sausage roll and of course to say hello to the animal friends there. We wandered through fields of organic produce, mingled with friendly farm animals, and grabbed a fresh loaf of sourdough bread for the road.
All in all there is so much that Byron has to offer for anyone and everyone. Our glamping tent at Reflections Holidays served as not only one of the most unique, thoughtful accommodations we have stayed in, but also the perfect centralised location to explore Byron Bay and all that it has to offer. I’m sure we will get the Byron Blues again in no time at all and find ourselves right back here!
Thanks Rhys and Ella, we can't wait for your next trip!
At Reflections Byron Bay, you can settle in however you like. There are permanent vans if you're after something simple and familiar, or glamping tents for a comfy camping feel without having to pitch anything yourself. For a bit more privacy, the park has cabins, villas, tiny homes, and premium studios — all within easy reach of the beach and local walking tracks.
If you're bringing your own gear, there’s a good mix of sites to choose from. Premium ensuite sites come with your own private bathroom, while premium powered and standard powered sites suit vans and motorhomes. Tent campers can book unpowered sites, which are tucked away in a peaceful corner of the park — though keep in mind there's no vehicle access in that area.
