Keen for a road trip? You’ll find Eden on the far South Coast of New South Wales, around 6.5 hours’ drive from Sydney and Melbourne, or a breezy 3.5 from Canberra. Prefer to leave the driving to someone else? There are coach services from Sydney and Canberra, as well as V-line collections from Melbourne. If you're flying, Merimbula Airport is only 25 minutes away, with daily flights from Melbourne and Sydney.

From ocean adventures to inland escapes, Eden is packed with things to do. Throw in a line at Twofold Bay, swim at family-friendly Cocora Beach, complete with BBQ areas and an awesome playground, or unwind at Aislings Beach Rock Pool, surrounded by gorgeous pink and white sea cliffs. Keen on wildlife? The Sapphire Coast is one of the world’s best whale-watching destinations, and dolphins and seals often join the party. Foodies won’t be disappointed either — Eden’s seafood and specialty produce are legendary. Is Eden closer to Melbourne or Sydney?

Eden is almost half-way between Melbourne and Sydney. If you’re driving, it’s 7 hours to Melbourne or around 6 hours to Sydney. Eden is closer to Canberra, a little over 3.5 hours by car, and right by Merimbula Airport, which has connecting flights to major east coast hubs. What is Eden NSW known for?

Across the board Eden is known and loved for its supreme location for whale watching. As a former whaling station town, Eden now lets locals and visitors see migrating whales, particularly as they pop into Twofold Bay. Marine life aside, Eden is also on the doorstep of incredible walks and hiking trails, as well as other water-based activities.

When can you see whales in Eden, NSW?

The best time to see whales in and around Eden is from May to early November. You can book a local tour to take you out on the ocean, or post up on dry land at various places along the coast, such as the popular Green Cape Lookout. It’s one of many things to do while you’re visiting the Sapphire Coast.

Is there a beach in Eden?

Yes, on the northern edge of Twofold Bay is Aslings Beach. It’s a prime spot for swimming and surfing, patrolled during peak summer months. Our top pick at this destination is the lagoon walking track, so don’t forget your camera!

Why do they call it the Sapphire Coast?

The Sapphire Coast gets its name from the deep sparkling waters of its coastline, referencing the colour of the famous sapphire gemstone. Part of Bega Valley Shire, it’s home to other Reflections Holidays parks in Bermagui and Pambula.
