You’ll find Tuncurry on the Barrington Coast, directly across the bridge from Forster and about 3.5 hours’ drive north of Sydney. It’s an easy run up the Pacific Highway, with plenty of scenic pitstops along the way. Buses also service the area, connecting Tuncurry with nearby towns and cities.

Outdoor adventures are the name of the game here. Swim or surf at the beaches, kayak the lake, or throw in a line for a fresh catch. Cool off in the famous Tuncurry Rock Pool, set near shady lawns and a sprawling playground that the kids will love. The Barrington Coast is also known for its oyster farms, so don’t miss a tasting session of some amazing Sydney rock Oysters. For a day trip, head into the hinterland for rainforest walks or waterfall chases.

Nine Mile Beach, also called Tuncurry Beach, is located adjacent to the township of Tuncurry.
It's well known for its good surfing but on the southern end, you'll find Tuncurry Rockpool, an enclosed swimming area nestled into the breakwall.
With a kiosk, children’s play area and barbecue facilities this is an extremely popular spot for families.
This beach is not patrolled.
For dog walking, Nine Mile Beach has an off-leash area north of the beach access track at Beach Street. Dogs can also be walked on leash at specific times in the morning and early evening south of that same beach access track at Beach Street up to the break wall.

The Tuncurry Bowling Club is a popular destination for both members and visitors. The club offers a new 21 on Parks Restaurant where you can enjoy local and fresh caught seafood, succulent steaks, or tender baby back ribs. Additionally, the club has a 300+ seat auditorium with modern facilities, perfect for functions and shows.
The club has three bowling greens that are extensively used by its bowling members and visiting social groups, reputedly having the best greens anywhere.

Tuncurry Rock Pool is one of the most popular family beaches of the Great Lakes region in the Barrington Coast. The white sands and blue waters of Wallis Lake are seen here to perfection.
The location is very scenic and very convenient to town services, including a popular cafe.
The beach is not patrolled. Swimmers should take extreme care as the location of the rock pool and the tidal nature of Wallis Lake mean the swimming area is subject to currents and tidal surges. The safety net with buoys is there to assist swimmers in difficulty but it is not shark-proof.

Diamond Beach is a beautiful, six-kilometre-long beach in the Hallidays Point region of the Barrington Coast. The beach is ideal for fishing, surfing, or just enjoying a long walk, watching the dolphins frolic in the waves.
It's dog-friendly and you can even ride horses along it.
The peaceful atmosphere of the area makes you feel like you are miles from anywhere, when, in fact, you are only 10 minutes from the towns of Taree and Forster.

Tuncurry is known for serving up mild, humid weather year-round, keeping the bush and dunes lush — no matter the season. Expect warm summers perfect for long beach days, and crisp winters made for headland walks and picturesque lakeside picnics. Summer highs average around 27°C, with November to early April being the most popular times to visit. Winters are cool, but short, with days sitting near 18°C.

Mornings here might mean a beach walk at Nine Mile, a sunrise paddle on Wallis Lake, or a coffee run to one of the local cafés. Spend the day fishing off the breakwall, exploring the Great Lakes region, or taking a dolphin-spotting cruise. Yes! Wallis Lake has lots of different types of fish swimming in its waters. As a popular fishing spot, you’ll likely get flathead, bream and whiting nibbling on your line, as well as other more elusive fish, like jewfish.
If you like oysters, then you’ll want to book a table at Thirty Three Degrees restaurant in Tuncurry. What’s special about this place is that they are the largest end-to-end producer of the rare (and delicious) Sydney Rock Oysters. Their menu offers modern Australian cuisine you can devour while taking in the spectacular views on their deck.
