North Head walking track

For nature lovers, the North Head walking track is short, sweet, and full of surprises. Starting from the carpark, it winds through a rare patch of littoral rainforest in Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve before opening out to the Brunswick River mouth. Along the way, you might spot a goanna basking, a carpet python (don't fret; they're harmless!), or flashes of colour from rainbow bee-eaters darting between the trees.

Once you reach the river, you’ll be treated to scenic views where the bush meets the water – perfect for a picnic or a quiet pause. From here, two other short trails also make their way to the beach and mangrove-dotted Marshalls Creek, giving you even more chances to stretch your legs and soak up the reserve’s wild beauty.

Rainforest adventures

Minyon Falls

Ready to trade salt spray for rainforest mist? About 45 minutes inland, the Minyon Falls walking track in Nightcap National Park is a must-do. The walking track weaves through lush rainforest, past ferny creeks and towering brushbox trees, before revealing a show-stopping waterfall that makes you feel worlds away. The full loop clocks in at around 13km (3–4 hours), but don’t worry – there are shorter tracks and lookouts if you’d rather keep things cruisy.

Pack a picnic for the grassy area and soak in sweeping views of the falls and surroundings. It’s the kind of hike that leaves you feeling small in the best way – surrounded by ancient forest, tumbling water and air so fresh you’ll want to bottle it up!
