Day 1: Morning by the beach, evenings on the river

Naturally, the best mornings start with a brekkie burger and coffee, or a smoothie and avo smash, whatever your craving as the day starts, North Beach General Store has you covered. Just don’t forget to pack your swimmers, you might need them for what’s next.

After brekkie is sorted, wander down to Mylestom Beach for a morning swim, or head to the netted tidal pool on the river if you've got little ones in tow. Hire a kayak or paddleboard and explore the Bellinger River at your own pace or join a guided day trip. You may even come across a herd of cows cooling off in the water. If a slow morning fishing is more your thing, cast a line from the bank for a shot at catching a bream, flathead or whiting.

Pack a picnic and head to Alma Doepel Park for a shady lunch by the water, then let the kids loose at the playground next door. As the afternoon cools off, settle in at North Beach Recreation and Bowling Club (better known locally as the Mylestom Bowling Club) for a game of barefoot bowls, followed by pizza or Chinese with river views to close out your first day.

Day 2: Wandering the rainforests and koala spottings

Lace up for an easy morning loop around the village on the Mylestom Loop, or follow the Mylestom North Beach Walk along the sand. Keen to go further? Bongil Bongil National Park is just a few minutes away and home to one of the biggest koala populations on the NSW coast. The Bluff Loop Walking Track begins and ends near Tuckers Rocks, climbing to a lookout above Bundageree Creek, while the Bundagaree Rainforest Walk follows the coastal fringe of the same park through banksia scrub and rainforest canopy.

By early afternoon, point the car towards Coffs Harbour, about 25 minutes north. Spend a few hours at the Big Banana Fun Park if you've got kids along, or head straight to the Jetty and Marina precinct for fish and chips and a walk out to Muttonbird Island, keeping an eye out for dolphins on the way.

Day 3: A foodie- filled day and a waterfall to end

Follow Waterfall Way inland to Bellingen, about 20 minutes from Mylestom, and spend the morning browsing (and tasting) the artisan studios at the Old Butter Factory. Grab a bite to eat while you’re there, they’re known for the corn fritter stack and range of house-made treats.

If it's the third Saturday of the month, time your visit around the Bellingen Community Markets for local produce, live music and handmade goods. From Bellingen, continue on to Dorrigo National Park, roughly another 45 minutes further inland, where the Skywalk lookout juts out over the rainforest canopy and the Wonga Walk loops past Crystal Shower Falls, a waterfall you can actually walk behind!

On the way home, stop at Dangar Falls on the edge of Dorrigo township for a quick dip, or detour to Never Never Creek near Glennifer for a quieter swimming hole. Got room for one more stop? Raleigh Winery & House is just 10 minutes from Reflections Mylestom and worth a slow finish, with a tasting and a cheese board by the river. Bookings are recommended.
