The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure – Crown Lands (DHPI-Crown Lands) has advised Reflections Holidays it expects to receive a report about testing of the Urunga Lido beach by the end of November 2025.
The report is expected to reveal the test results of land and underwater samples taken from the area in October 2025. Community members may recall the Urunga Lido beach was closed in August after the discovery of asbestos fragments.
The DHPI – Crown Lands said in a media statement it will “consider the findings before deciding on next steps”. The NSW Environment Protection Authority is guiding DHPI – Crown Lands on the investigation and management of the site.
Exclusion fencing remains in place on the part of the site which remains closed. The media statement said it will remain in place “until it is better known what we are dealing with and how we can manage the contamination source”.
