In great news for the Red Rock community, construction of the long-awaited new stairs to Little Beach is expected to start early in the new year. This timeframe has changed slightly from the original schedule due to an unexpected delay with sourcing materials.
With the sensitive coastal environment an important factor, we chose the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Soil Conservation Service Division to undertake the detailed design of the stairs and manage the project’s delivery.
We are aware of the culturally significant Red Rock Headland and surrounding areas and will work with the Coffs Harbour Local Aboriginal Land Council and the Traditional Owners to ensure the cultural sensitivity of this area is protected.
When we spoke with community members in March this year we shared how funding had been secured. We also gave details of the preferred options and explained how the location of the stairs was slightly adjusted to help ensure the new stairs will better withstand the harsh coastal environment.
Once work gets started, it’s expected the construction will be completed within a matter of weeks.
