  • The demonstration cultural burn will take place on Tuesday 11 August

What is happening?

Reflections Holidays is working with Yurruungga Aboriginal Corporation and the NSW Rural Fire Service to undertake a planned demonstration cultural burn in the reserve area on Gumbaynggirr Country at the top of Little Beach and Elephant Head. Cultural burning, sometimes called cool burning, is a traditional Aboriginal land management practice using low-intensity fire to care for Country.

Why is the burn being undertaken?

The burn will support the regeneration and health of Country, help protect native plants and animals, and enable Traditional Custodians to continue important cultural land management practices. It also forms part of Reflections Holidays’ commitment under our Reconciliation Action Plan.

When will it happen?

The burn will start on Tuesday 11 August (weather and conditions permitting). As it depends on weather and site conditions, the timing may change at short notice.

What should the community expect?

During the demonstration burn, there may be smoke, emergency-service vehicles and temporary changes to access around the burn area. The NSW Rural Fire Service has prepared the burn plan and will manage onsite risks. Please follow signage and onsite directions and keep clear of the area.

Where can I find updates?

We will update this page when the date and timing are confirmed and if arrangements change or the burn is postponed. Please check back for the latest information.
