We only came out for a drive from Mudgee in May 2025. We couldn’t believe how low this end of the dam is. And still very low at 52 percent as of December 2025. Where holiday makers would once water ski and kids swimming in the dam water. Not now and the water is very green. Not even any bird life on the water. There are many permanent sites not used for ages. If you are looking for peace and quiet you will get it here. All amenities in the park are spot less, very clean. And the staff at the shop/office very helpful. Their coffee is very good too. You will need to bring supplies with you and lunch. There is no grocery store here. At the first gate you come to. On the closed office that’s there, on the door is a code used to open the gate or ring the office. The sign said $10. For day use. We proceeded thru the gate and bought coffee and ice creams at the shop. We were not charged the $10. It’s very dry here. Not a speck of greenery anywhere. And dusty. Wyangala Dam near Cowra. Is a beautiful very big Dam. 85 percent full December 2025. We use to ski and boat race there years ago. Another spot we visited was the beautiful Dunn’s Swamp. It doesn’t sound inviting, but I assure you, it is a great spot. We brought our own food and came here for a picnic. We had such a relaxing swim in the big beautiful clean and clear lake. It is not a motor boat or ski lake. Then went for a walk along the trail and looked at all of the unique big Pogoda rock formations. There were also a number of people camping here. And apparently in summer they have a private company come here with canoes to hire. At night there is a lot of Wombats and wildlife. Half way there from Kandos to Dunn’s Swamp, is a well maintained road. Because of wildlife, I wouldn’t travel at night. Wombats are solid creatures and can really damage your car.

We had an amazing time at this beautiful spot! The scenery was absolutely stunning, with so much natural beauty and lots of adorable wildlife. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. During a heavy rain, our car got stuck in the mud, but they came to the rescue with a tow rope and got us out! The facilities were top-notch, with very clean restrooms and hot water. Highly recommend visiting this place for a wonderful experience! Five stars!

Was a fun camping trip for a person who doesn’t camp, but the amenities were way too far from the actual camping spot As an anxious person not used to no reception, I felt really safe even without phone reception

Great camping area. Good amenities that are kept clean. Easy spot to get onto Burrendong dam. Only 30 minutes to Mudgee. Parking at boat ramps slightly messy though.
