Best Pub Stops for a NSW Coastal Road Trip

We all know the dangers of driving while tired, and that drivers should take a break at least every two hours. But forget dodgy roadside rest stops. We’ve collated six of our favourite coastal pubs and hotels so you can stop, revive and THRIVE in some of the best pitstops in the state.

And needless to say, stick to the orange juice if you’re the one behind the wheel ….

1.The Kingscliff Beach Hotel

Where is it? Kingscliff on the NSW Far North Coast, an easy 1.5-hour drive south of Brisbane. The perfect pitstop for our Brunswick Heads parks of Ferry Reserve Holiday Park, Massy Greene Holiday Park and Terrace Reserve Holiday Park.

What you’ll find: Otherwise known as the ‘Kingy’, this light and airy coastal hotel features a roomy sports bar, an alfresco beer garden, pool tables and top-notch kids play area.

Why you’ll love it: This place will get you in the holiday mood. Sublime views, delectable food and plenty of room for the crew to stretch their legs.

2.The Rod and Reel Hotel

Where is it? Woodburn on the NSW Far North Coast, on the Pacific Highway. This is a great stopover for those travelling to our Evans Head Holiday Park, Ballina Holiday Park, Shaws Bay Holiday Park, Byron Bay Holiday Park and Lennox Head Holiday Park.

What you’ll find: A welcoming classic Aussie pub overlooking Woodburn Park and the Richmond River. Complete with bistro, kids play area and a pet-friendly beer garden.

Why you’ll love it: With its hearty pub food and relaxed, friendly atmosphere, this is the ideal recharging station for the entire family.

3.The Moonee Beach Tavern

Where is it? Just north of Coffs Harbour on the NSW Coffs Coast, this tavern is a stone’s throw from our Moonee Beach Holiday Park. It’s also an ideal stopover for those heading south to Mylestom Holiday park or Nambucca Heads Holiday Park.

What you’ll find: An old-school pub that’s clearly a favourite with the locals. Enjoy some cheap-as-chips meals in the spacious beer garden and let any tensions of the trip simply melt away.

Why you’ll love it: If you’re travelling with kids, this is where it’s at. The Kids Zone features free mini-golf, jumping castle and activity room. Perfect for wearing them out before getting back in the car.

5.The Huskisson Pub

Where is it? Huskisson is on the shores of Jervis Bay on the NSW South Coast, a short drive from the Princes Highway and two hours north of our Bermagui Holiday Park.

What you’ll find: A beautifully renovated 1932 hotel with unparalleled views over Jervis Bay. Kick back in the Sports Bar or enjoy a delicious meal in the Brasserie.

Why you’ll love it: This place oozes style with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. You’ll love the fit out, the deliciously fresh local produce, and of course those breathtaking ocean views.

6.The Tathra Hotel

Where is it? Tathra is roughly half way between two of our favourite NSW South Coast destinations, Bermagui Holiday Park and Eden Holiday Park. Take the turnoff from Bega and make your way to this quiet coastal village.

What you’ll find: A charming and recently renovated country-style hotel. Perched on the headland with stunning views, this family-friendly destination offers good food, good beers and good vibes.

Why you’ll love it: What’s not to love? Beautiful surrounds, friendly staff, boutique beers on tap and an array of mouth-watering meals to sustain you for the rest of your journey.
