Kid-friendly walks in NSW: easy tracks for families

5 minutes

Planning child-friendly activities in the great outdoors can be daunting. If the walk is a kilometre too long or slightly too steep, the echoes of “I’m tired. Are we there yet?” may ring in your ears for several days. Exploring nature with kids doesn’t have to mean long hikes, steep climbs or carrying a tired toddler back to the car.

Across NSW, you’ll find plenty of short, easy and family-friendly walks designed for little legs, from pram-friendly coastal paths to shady bush tracks with waterfalls, wildlife and plenty of spots to stop and play. Looking for more challenging walks? Check out our guide to NSW's best walks here.

What makes a walk kid-friendly?

Not all walking tracks are created equal, especially when you’ve got kids in tow. The best kid-friendly walks in NSW have:

  • Short distances (ideally under 3km return)
  • Easy, well-formed paths with minimal steep sections
  • Things to see and do to keep kids engaged, wildlife spotting, waterfalls, beaches, or rocks to climb
  • Facilities nearby, like toilets, picnic areas or playgrounds
  • Pram friendly sections for younger families

It’s less about the destination and more about the journey.
