Captured a show-stopping shot? Spotted a feathered find you don’t see every day? Or caught a bird doing something downright hilarious? Share your photo for the chance to win one of three $500 Reflections Holidays vouchers.

There are three ways to win:

Rare bird find: An unusual or exciting feathered encounter.

Terms & conditions

Information on how to enter and details of the prize form part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.

Eligibility

Entry is open to Australian residents aged 18 years or over. Employees of the Promoter and their immediate families, and agencies associated with this promotion, are ineligible to enter.

Promotion Period

The promotion commences on 7am on Sunday, 4 September and closes at 11:59pm on Monday, 30 November 2026 (“Promotional Period”). Entries received outside this period will not be eligible.

How to Enter

To enter, eligible participants must, during the Promotional Period:

Submit their photo entry via the link above and specify which category they are entering.

Only entries that fulfil the above criteria will be considered valid. Multiple photos may be submitted.

Judging and Winner Selection

This promotion is a game of skill. One (1) winner will be selected for each category based on the criteria listed: Funniest Bird Photo, best bird photo, rarest bird photo. The competition will be judged by Reflections Holidays and associated representatives. The winner will be notified via email and announced on Reflections Holidays' social media channels on Facebook on the 9th of December 2026.

If a winner does not respond within the timeframe specified in the winner notification email, the prize will be forfeited, and an alternate winner may be drawn at the Promoter’s discretion.

Prize

The winner will receive one (1) of three (3) Reflections Holidays stay credit valued at $500 (“Prize”).
The Prize:

Is valid for use on accommodation at any Reflections Holidays park in NSW
Is valid for one (1) year from the date of issue
Is not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash

All other costs associated with the Prize are the responsibility of the winner.

Use of Submitted Content

By submitting photos as part of this promotion, entrants grant the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, publish and share the submitted images across Reflections Holidays’ website, magazine, social media channels, EDMs and other marketing materials.

Entrants confirm they have the right to submit the images and that all individuals appearing in the photos have provided consent.

Verification and Conduct

The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and entrants (including identity, age and residency) and to disqualify any individual who has breached these Terms and Conditions, tampered with the entry process, or engaged in any improper or unlawful conduct.

Errors and omissions may be accepted at the Promoter’s discretion. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

Liability

The Promoter excludes all liability (including negligence) for any personal injury, loss or damage (including loss of opportunity), whether direct, indirect or consequential, arising in any way out of the promotion, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.

Tips for taking bird photos

Good bird photos don’t always need fancy gear – a little patience, good light and knowing when to hit the shutter can go a long way. Here are a few simple tips to help you get a great shot, whether you’re using your phone or a camera.

Whatever you're shooting with...keep your distance, never disturb a bird or its nest for a photo, and remember that the bird's welfare is more important than getting the shot.

Taking bird photos on your phone

You don't need a huge camera lens to get a bird photo worth keeping. Your phone can do a surprisingly good job, especially when the bird isn't too far away.

Get the eyes in focus – A sharp eye can make the whole photo feel sharper.
Use natural light – If you can, photograph with the light behind you rather than shooting directly towards the sun.
Don't rely too heavily on digital zoom – Zooming right in can quickly reduce image quality. Take the shot a little wider and crop it afterwards instead.
Use burst mode – Birds rarely sit still for long. Take several shots in quick succession and choose the best one later.
Get down to their level – Where it's safe and practical, changing your angle can make a big difference.
Tap to focus – Tap the bird, particularly its head or eye, on your screen before taking the shot.
Look for the moment – A bird taking off, splashing in water or interacting with another bird can be far more interesting than a perfectly posed shot.

Taking bird photos with a camera

Got a camera and a longer lens? You have a little more freedom to photograph birds from a respectful distance and capture birds in motion.

Focus on the eye – If your camera has animal or bird eye-detection autofocus, switch it on.
Use a fast shutter speed – Birds move quickly, particularly in flight. A faster shutter speed can help freeze the action and reduce blur.
Try continuous shooting – Use burst or continuous mode for take-offs, landings, feeding and other fast-moving behaviour.
Use a longer lens – A telephoto lens lets you fill more of the frame without needing to get too close to the bird.
Give the bird somewhere to go – If it's looking or flying in one direction, leave some empty space in front of it rather than putting it right against the edge of the frame.
Watch and wait – Find a comfortable spot, keep your distance and observe. You'll often get better photographs by letting the bird come to you.
Don't chase technical perfection – An unusual expression, funny interaction or perfectly timed moment can make a much more memorable photo than a technically flawless portrait.
