We are pleased to confirm Reflections Holidays will soon commence much needed maintenance work to repair the retaining wall and improve river access on the riverfront at Massy Greene, having recently secured funding for the worst affected areas. This work will also include additional community seating and native planting.
This riverfront area is well used by park guests and residents, and concerns about erosion, stability and safety in this area are well-founded. We understand these concerns and acknowledge the impact the poor condition of this area has had on the community over an extended period of time. We are sorry we haven’t been able to get work done more quickly; it has been a long process to secure insurance funding for this.
During this time, Reflections has made visitors aware of the safety concerns and has completed two rounds of interim works at its own cost, to preserve the retaining wall and walkway while seeking funding to undertake more permanent repairs.
This section of riverbank has been significantly impacted by erosion, flooding and ageing infrastructure, intensified by severe weather events in recent years, including the devastating 2022 floods and Tropical Cyclone Alfred in 2025.
Indicative timeline (subject to approvals):
A design for the repairs to the retaining wall was commissioned over 18 months ago as part of a funding request. This design is currently being reviewed and updated. We expect the design review work to be completed in Feb 2026.
Reflections is the appointed Crown land manager of the holiday parks in Brunswick Heads. Repairs to the retaining wall can proceed under the existing Plan of Management, and a permit to undertake the work is required from NSW Department of Primary Industries (Marine Parks) as the works require access to the river.
The work on the retaining wall is specialised due to the proximity to the river and marine environment. A suitably qualified contractor will be engaged to undertake the work once the approval has been confirmed. We expect to engage the contractor approximately 4-6 weeks after the approval is received.
The construction period will be confirmed once the successful contractor is appointed and lead times are understood, as well as the available working parameters (tidal impacts and noise considerations). The start date for the program of work will also be dependent on the contractor’s availability. Rest assured we will be making this happen as quickly as possible.
As this project progresses and we get actual dates, we will continue to share updates with the community on this page, so information is available in one clear and consistent place.
We are also planning several opportunities to engage with the community during February and March through informal community pop-up events. These dates will be shared on Reflections' socials.
Reflections is the Crown land manager for three holiday parks in Brunswick Heads, and we employ local people who are a part of the Brunswick Heads community. Many have children at local schools, participate in local community activities, and care deeply for the land they work and play on. Many have been feeling the brunt of social media commentary, and while we understand that feedback is often directed at our local team, they are incredibly busy operating their parks for the enjoyment of guests and visitors.
